There was almost an additional member of the Guardians in the film: Bug.. The character of Bug has been a part of Marvel Comics since the comic book company obtained the rights to produce a Micronauts comic, based on the Mego toy line. (He was originally known as Galactic Warrior, but because the comic character looked nothing like the toy, they changed his name and made him their own.) Bug bounced around the Marvel Universe for years, eventually turning up in—you guessed it—Annihilation: Conquest, and James Gunn was psyched about the idea of utilizing him in the film, but as he mentioned on the podcast The Movie Crypt, "There was a really good chance Bug was going to show up in the first film, but we do not own him."

Since the trailer debuted, everyone's been trying to figure out what the shirt says, or if it's a logo of some kind. Unfortunately, the language on the shirt is one that none of us will be able to read any time soon. Chris Pratt was asked if he could translate the words on the shirt, and he revealed that it's got roots in a much deeper part of the galaxy. "Somebody can, because it’s a real language apparently. They’ve created a real alphabet, but it’s from - I think, I might be making this up – I think it’s from a candy wrapper from the first movie. This is like a space brand of some kind so it’s like on my shirt the way anyone would be wearing an ironic Reese’s Pieces shirt or something like that." If that's true, that t-shirt Easter Egg is a deep cut to the first film. Now, it's likely every big Guardians fan will rush home, pop in the Blu-Ray, and try to find the mysterious candy wrapper they didn't notice the first time around.

Peter Jason Quill is a half-human who was abducted by the Ravagers. After his abduction, he began building a fame as the legendary outlaw Star-Lord, eventually becoming the founder and leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy team. Deciding to leave the Ravagers, he stole the Orb, unintentionally becoming a part of the Quest for the Orb. During the Quest, he formed an uneasy alliance with Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot, and helped stop Ronan the Accuser from destroying Xandar. After the Battle of Xandar, he left with the other Guardians to do "a little bit of bad and a little bit of good".
