Turning Stark into a popular hero began as a personal challenge for Lee, who saw the character as a direct contradiction of everything Marvel's readers usually looked for in superheroes. A wealthy businessman who made weapons for the military, the character was introduced at a time when the Cold War was at its peak and the publisher's readers were tired of war and the ills associated with capitalism.

Superman wasnt always able to fly. When Superman first appeared in 1938, the comic said that he was incredibly strong, could withstand anything less than a bursting shell from a tank, and was able to leap 1/8th of a mile. And that was it! His ability to fly first showed up in the radio series and his original cartoons. In the comics, he officially gained the ability to fly in 1941, nearly two years after his first story. In the years since his creation, he's been given new abilities and had some later taken away. Nowadays, his arsenal includes heat-vision, incredible strength/stamina, enhanced senses, X-Ray vision, arctic breath, super-speed, increased healing, near-complete body/muscle control, and a skin-tight force-field that makes him invulnerable to most forms of harm.

When Tony Stark is kidnapped and forced into a cave in the beginning of the first Iron Man film, we as an audience are so wrapped up in what is going on that we focus quite solely on Tony. When Tony finally puts on the suit and takes to dispatching his captors we're looking so closely at what he's doing we fail to notice who exactly he punched in the face and sent flying across the cave. That person was none other than Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who is a friend of director Jon Favreau. Listed in the credits simply as “Guard,” Morello has the honor of being the first person that Tony Stark sucker punchers in his newly invented Iron Man armor.
