If Rick and Morty’s odd friendship appears somewhat familiar to you, it’s probably because you also happen to be a big-time Back to the Future fan. Because apparently, the characters of Rick and Morty were based on the famous sci-fi duo Doc Brown and Marty McFly. The show originally debuted at a film festival as a parody of the Back to the Future series, and  it was so well-received that it became the show we know and love today. Morty is clearly the straight character of the duo a la McFly, with Rick being the wacky scientist much like Brown. You have to admit, Rick even looks A LOT like Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown– right down to the hair and lab coat. Although there are obviously some differences– such as Rick being a horrible alcoholic, it’s pretty tough not to see the resemblance to the iconic characters. Now I wonder what famous character Mr. Poopybutthole is based off? I’d have to guess a Rob Schneider character.
